Portrait & Event Photography

The above gallery represents my portrait and event photography work. This area of photography is joyful and thrilling for me as a photographer. I am particularly drawn to capturing candid and ephemeral moments. At times posed portraits can feel forced and stiff and I strive to avoid that quality in my work. My greatest thrill as a photographer is catching my subject at a moment when they are unselfconscious, candid, and genuine. While sometimes these moments are still and thoughtful moments, I especially enjoy capturing images of people mid-gesture, actively in a state of life and movement. To me there is a vitality to such images that seemingly defies the passage of time. I am particularly drawn to moments of interaction between people, when the sense of connection and tenderness is palpable. It is enormously gratifying when I am able to convey this quality in a photograph.
